Sound off on the state of the FC on this long Labor Day weekend.
Comment of the Week
Friday, August 31st, 2007There were so many great comments of substance this week, I dare not try to award one the title of “best.” So instead, the award for comment of the week (month?) goes to Mike for a single hilarious line:
Take Me To Your Leaders
Friday, August 31st, 2007Blogs like the Foothill Cities break the news. I make fun of the news. Yes, I’m Aaron Proctor, former 2007 Mayoral candidate and now irreverent blogger at http://www.proctorformayor.com.
I’m sure a lot of you outside of Pasadena wonder why certain Crown City council members get called names like “Sexy Steve” or “Iron Margaret”.
This guide, summarized […]
Missed Media
Friday, August 31st, 2007Before the Contributor age, we were but two bloggers, and as a consequence, missed a lot of fascinating headlines in the media. Follow us down the jump for a bundle of news we should have mentioned and call us out on the rest of our failures this week in the comments…
CM News
Friday, August 31st, 2007Rosemead hired Oliver Chi, their 27 year-old super star deputy city manager turned interim city manager as plain old city manager, as Jennifer McLain reports in the SGVT, by a 3-2 vote. He’ll be making $169,000 a year.
Previously he was assistant to the city manager in Claremont.
For what its worth, there is a generally […]
Water Companies Win v. San Gabriel Valley Lawsuit
Friday, August 31st, 2007Anyone have any thoughts on this AP report from Forbes Magazine:
Launching the Tableau Vivante Gold Line Tour
Friday, August 31st, 2007For those unfamiliar - Hi. I’m Tableau Vivante. I’m a food blogger living in the SGV who writes about eating local, farmers’ markets, and general foodie tidbits. I’m also into photography and my posts tend to be very picture heavy. Here at the FC, I’ll be posting one pic tops, with links […]
“Hey, FC…Can I Borrow the Keys to the Blog?”
Thursday, August 30th, 2007Since this blog started less than a year ago, its kept on truckin’ no matter what obstacles were thrown in its way, often to the surprise of Centinel and myself.
The main obstacle, however, seemed insurmountable.
Time has always been a rare commodity for us. We have lots of things we’d love to write about through […]
Fool’s Gold on the Gold Line
Thursday, August 30th, 2007Fred Ortega has a great summary in the SGVT of the mammoth amount of development planned or under construction along the proposed Gold Line Extension eastward from Pasadena. But he also notes that the Extension despite Habib Balian’s cheerleading, is far from a done deal.
The state budget last week transferred more than $1 billion away […]
Hi-Brow? Not in Claremont…
Thursday, August 30th, 2007The Claremont Insider makes an interesting point in relation to Centinel’s drinkin’ post:
It seems as if it’s harder to get approval to sell hard liquor than it is to sell Marijuana in Claremont.
Local Links: Monrovia

Samantha Palumbo of San Dimas Recovers
Wednesday, August 29th, 2007Quite a story:
Samantha did not die (though she should have, according to medical predictions) but lay for a week in a vegetative state. One day, a doctor pricked her scalp with a needle – and Samantha’s hand shot up, grabbed his hand, and held it. The puzzled doctor walked out into the waiting room and […]
High Density Housing Alert
Wednesday, August 29th, 2007An interesting letter to the editor in the SGVT by a Stephen Millard:
“Barren Azusa”
Tuesday, August 28th, 2007Classic quotes from the SGVT:
The retail center on the corner of Citrus Avenue and Foothill Boulevard is pretty barren.
Many of the white-gray building fronts house nothing but empty space. There’s a CVS Pharmacy, a 99 Cents Only store, a movie theater and not much else, other than a couple of free-standing fast-food joints.
“It’s been like […]
No More Secret Local Government Salaries
Tuesday, August 28th, 2007The California Supreme Court on Monday ruled that local governments have a legal obligation to reveal what they are paying their employees, finding that public inspection of government payrolls is crucial to monitoring how cities and counties spend taxpayer dollars.

“Openness in government is essential to the functioning of democracy,” Chief Justice Ronald George wrote for […]
