Hay = Bad Boy = Tom Adams, Anti-Cop Monrovia City Councilman?
By Robert C.J. Parry | May 6, 2008
For the last several weeks, this blog has been sullied by the rude rantings of two commenters who variously identified themselves as “Hay” and “Bad Boy.” These comments attacked me personally, but, more importantly vilified and offended the officers of the Monrovia Police Department, including making jokes about the shooting of Sergeant Dan Verna in late March.
Early on, we identified that Hay and Bad Boy were the same person, and even said as much. Still, the dual-identity rant continued. Unbeknownst to Hay/Bad Boy, every time he posted, he was drawing the circles around himself ever so finely, until he found himself in the center of a bullseye. Tuesday night at the Monrovia City Council, I unveiled extensve evidence that unequivocally links Hay/Bad Boy to Adams & Barnes Escrow, a business owned by Monrovia City Councilman Tom Adams, and other evidence that tends to indicate that the foul-mouthed cop hater is Adams himself.
Below posted is the full text of my comments to the Monrovia City Council. When time allows, I will also post my exhibits and evidence that lead to these conclusions.
Mr. Mayor, lady and gentlemen of the City Council, Mr. City Manager, My name is Robert Parry of N. Primrose Avenue. I come here tonight with a heavy heart. The information I am about to present to you is troubling. It will, undoubtedly mark a sad, low point in the history of this council and the City of Monrovia as a whole. I am not happy to be here because I have to ask a troubling question, but that question will lead to a telling truth.
Before I begin, I apologize in advance for the props and charts I have. They are necessary to illustrate, without doubt what I am about to say. The information is complex, yet clear. I can document every word of it.
In recent weeks, this Council and the officers of the Monrovia Police Officers Association have engaged in a contentious debate over wage and hour issues. While I tend to side with MPOA in this matter, I think the City has, at times, made compelling points. Moreover, to your credit, the members of this council have made clear your support for the invaluable work and tireless, dangerous efforts of our police officers, regardless of the wage issue. One of you even has a “We support our police” sign on the lawn of his office.
In some corners, however, that support has evaporated. I am referring specifically to comments that have appeared on the Foothill Cities blog, TheFCBlog.com. These comments have attacked the character, integrity, and dedication of the officers of the Monrovia Police Department. Some have been so vulgar that I cannot repeat them in this chamber.
The allegations these commenters have made include statements like
- MPD officers write bogus tickets and harass citizens
- They are security guards worth no more than $15 an hour
- The only difference between cops and crooks is that the cops have badges.
- That MPD officers threaten people with their guns to extort money (that allegation was made this morning)
- That 7-Eleven clerks have more dangerous jobs than MPD officers
- And, finally, that the last MPD officer to be injured on the job was hurt because he ate too many donuts at once.
One would think this council would not need to be told that the last MPD officer to be seriously hurt was shot in the face by a felon. Yet, remarkably, all of these statements were made in the days after SGT Dan Verna was shot, after each of you were called in the early morning hours, just as his family was.
So, who would say such awful things? Supposedly two people. The commenters have variously identified themselves by the name “Hay” and “Bad Boy.” However, because I am an author of theFCblog.com, I am able to research the technical aspects of each comment, and I am able to trace the “IP address” of the computer from which each comment is written.
Now, for the uninitiated, an IP address is not unlike a street address. Just as every house and building has one – sometimes the rooms with in buildings too so does each computer on the Internet. If you will, think of the Internet as one long street, and the IP address as one long number showing Zip code, block, house and room.
By tracing the IP address of Hay and Bad Boy, I have been able to prove that they are most likely one person. Shortly after dawn on Sunday, April 13, Hay and BadBoy each posted five comments within an hour from the same IP address – two within eleven minutes. This IP address is registered to Champion, and is almost certainly a residence. I don’t know about you, but my family are pretty much the only folks in my home after dawn on a Sunday morning, so we can be fairly certain that Hay and Bad Boy are, in fact, the same person.
Moreover, I exchanged email with “Hay” and he identified himself as “Thomas Edwards” and admitted to being both Hay and Bad Boy.
So, who is Thomas Edwards? Well, he has left quite a trail. Since April 12, he has made some 70 comments and emails, from a variety of IP addresses. However, a number of them are the same, and appear consistently. With this information, we know he posts from home and from several office addresses and from a mobile device. However, using a sophisticated tracing program, I have discovered that those office addresses all trace through the same set of IP addresses- in Internet language, they are 66.146.0.10 or 15.
Initially, that doesn’t tell us much.
Among the computers tracing through that IP, is the one at 66.146.25.69, from which Hay has commented three different times.
Now, just as 415 S. Ivy, Monrovia, CA 91016 is also known as City Hall, so too does 66.146.25.69 have a more commonly known name.
As an author of the Blog, I receive emails every time somebody posts a comment. Some are more detailed than others. But, imagine my surprise on April 13 when I received an email regarding a comment from that IP address and the comment report informed me that 66.146.25.69 is more commonly known as the email box for ab-escrow.com. That would be, Adams and Barnes Escrow.
Again, I have documents and records to prove all of this.
Moreover, using IP tracing, we can demonstrate that 66.146.0.10 is also known as ab-escrow.com. Again, Adams & Barnes Escrow, a business owned and operated by Councilman Tom Adams.
Finally, I have this header for an email Councilman Adams sent from his Century21.com email account to a local resident. It originated from 66.146.119.24 on the morning of April 23.
That IP address traces through the same path. More importantly, that very same morning, Hay posted a comment to the FC blog using that very same computer. Tom Edwards wrote me an email from that computer on April 14. All of them route through ab-escrow.com
Now, Mr. Adams would like you all to believe he knows nothing about blogs and the Internet. At the last Council meeting, Mr. Adams told the people of Monrovia that he has never blogged and knows nothing about “these Internet people,” a term he used derisively.
However, I think there are 2,500 Century 21 Agents who would be surprised to hear that from Mr. Adams. I have here a print-out from HugoTorres.com – that’s the blog of the general manager of Adams & Barnes, Monrovia. According to his own general manager, in February of this year, Mr. Adams went the Century 21 national conference in Florida and “detailed for 2,500 onlookers” how Century 21 Adams & Barns REALTORS use a 24-hour, software-based system to capture leads for buyers and sellers. In fact, Mr. Adams been a long time advisor to Century 21’s technology and marketing teams at the New Jersey Headquarters, and his office was the test site for Century 21s newest Internet-based technology.”
Which raises the question, did Mr. Adams lie to those 2500 REALTORS, did he lie to the people of Monrovia at the last meeting of the council, or is his general manager a liar?
But, the more important questions this council, and this community need to ask are these:
Is Councilman Thomas E. Adams, in fact, Tom Edwards, Hay and Bad Boy? If not, who in his office would say such vile, nasty things, and why would he associate with them?
Does he believe that the police officers of this City are no better than thieves, taking money from people with their guns?
Does he believe our police officers are lazy, worth no more than $15 an hour, and no different from criminals, except for their badges?
Does he really believe that sergeant Verna was hurt by a donut, not the bullet of a felon who was trying to kill him?
And, finally, how long has Mr. Adams harbored these anti-cop sentiments, and how have they impacted his judgment when these officers have asked to be paid at the average of their counterparts in other cities?
The people of Monrovia deserve to know the truth. As a speaker earlier said, this is not the way we do business in Monrovia.

My gawd, Mr.Parry, you have hopelessly lost me.
May 7th, 2008 at 12:58 am
I always thought hay/ badboy would get blackballed for his/ their inappropriate remarks in these comments.
Tom Adams, as you read this, please answer whether you are hay/ badboy.
If you are not, I expect a news story from the Star Un-news (spoon fed to them by Dick Singer) detailing your profound shock and anger at the loose cannon under YOUR watch and that you have terminated the employee.
If you need a grand scapegoat scenario to cover your tracks, I’d go with the loose cannon scenario. But then if you do that, you’ll have to be accountable for having wretched characters under YOUR watch.
Come clean, have Dick cook up a story, take your lumps and tender your resignation immediately as council person.
You have nothing positive left to offer the community of Monrovia.
Let the healing begin.

my first reaction to what you’ve posted is, “gee, if a blogger is capable of doing that kind of detective work from an IP address, then what must the NSA know about me?”
i just updated my windows xp with service pack 3 tonight - i’m wondering what magical, marvelous technology microsoft installed to spy on me with that little upgrade? is someone watching me right now?
these are some frightening times we’re living in.
May 7th, 2008 at 1:20 am
More frightening than the NSA or MS spying on me is the extreme lack of leadership and civic responsibility exhibited, from the bottom (as in city council) to the top (as in federally elected politicians).
I fear the current lack of leadership and attendant loss of purpose and civility more than Uncle Sam finding out about my untold hundreds of dollars stashed away in trolley car futures.

Re. Star News report: “Police, Monrovia officials resume talks

Quote by Dammeier: “I’m not sure how it would backfire. We’re just trying to be truthful with the public,”
Not sure? You are an attorney. Usually, a good attorney knows the answer to the question before he asks it. Look it up in your first year law books. The public, sitting in traffic (captive audience-placement is A+) on the freeway reading your bullboard is… you don’t know what, do you?
You think writing bullboards is an easy thing that certainly any attorney could do it? I never met a copywriter or an art director worth anything that was an attorney. No offense. It’s a specialized field-there isn’t much guess work involved.
Words and pictures meet the desired result, every time.
May 7th, 2008 at 2:59 am
Fool! I feel for the cops on this one.
May 7th, 2008 at 3:04 am
Forgive me Centinel & Publius I am a bit sleepless this night.
Bad advertising for a good product
or
Good Advertising for a bad product
are both an abomination.
There has to be truth, and let the chips fall where they may.
May 7th, 2008 at 6:20 am
Holy crap Parry, that is amazing. I can only imagine the the reaction in open council.
I wonder now if Ms Pamer will take an unbiased approach to reporting rather than just take what she get’s from city govt as the truth.
Wow.
May 7th, 2008 at 7:42 am
Great work, RJ (a bit scary, though…glad you already know where we live and didn’t have to “find” it
). Lucky for Adams he was not at the meeting last evening and would love to have seen the expression on his face.
As for the “stay at home moms” that are appalled with some of the police officers actions, they need to get out into the REAL WORLD soon!!!!
May 7th, 2008 at 8:18 am
To those of you who toil away all day long trying to make personal attacks, make incoherent uhm…uhm….statements and generally baseless and stupid arguments….get a life!….hopefully outside the Monrovia city limits - the best run city in the SGV.
May 7th, 2008 at 8:20 am
Oh yeah…..isn’t one of the leaders of the “gang” a convicted felon?
May 7th, 2008 at 8:43 am
The question I would ask, if Tom Adams is underhanded enough to do this as a member of our City Council than would you want to trust him to handle a real estate transaction for you?
May 7th, 2008 at 8:48 am
Maybe his dislike of the police stems from his days as a truck driver before he got into real estate?
May 7th, 2008 at 9:02 am
I don’t find it surprising, at all, that members of the city council might be using their private resources to mislead, mis-characterize and attack the police department negotiations.
They have been using the public meetings, the city owned website and the taxpayer funded “public information officer” to do the same. Citizens in town have been left scrambling to get any “real” information on this issue.
It would have been great if the negotiations could have been handled professionally, but the city officials chose otherwise…..walking away from negotiations, unilaterly invoking a contract, pulling resources from the department(such as refusing to provide vehicles for the Vegas competition) invoking new schedules upon the officers, etc.
I suspect the “billboard” has accomplished exactly what was intended…..creating an awareness with the community as to what is taking place and bringing into question the judgement of the city officials.
The only “madness” that exists, is the madness displayed by the city manager, city public information officer and city council in disparaging members of the public and police force throughout this process.
May 7th, 2008 at 9:42 am
Frazgo asks if the newspaper will “take an unbiased approach to reporting rather than just take what she get’s from city govt as the truth”.
Sure and pigs will fly. The paper has a long history of failing to report the goings on over at city hall. However, they do a fine job of operating as a press release outlet.
May 7th, 2008 at 9:42 am
Looks like the Blogs are having a positive effect when people like “StopTheMadness” start whining and telling us to go away. People like that are being exposed and like the Cockroaches they are, they will run away (hopefully outside the City) when the lights go on.
May 7th, 2008 at 10:00 am
Good work with tracking the IP down. If this is the work of Mr. Adams, how pathetic and sad. Our City deserves better. He is entitled to his opinion, but either he has to be truly anonymous or he has to speak openly from his position as a Council member. Finding out that he may be using subterfuge is a disappointment.
May 7th, 2008 at 10:02 am
Outstanding work, Parry. Now let’s see what repercussions, if any, will befall Adams. If Adams was smart, he would have taken a page from Sierra Madre Council Member John Buchanan’s book, and just put his shit out in the open, on the front page of the Star-News, endorsing an attack website. No newspaper covered this, and strangely enough, Buchanan was re-elected. He got away with sliming political opponents of super development although the cost to his soul is unknown. The Star-News was the handmaiden to this b.s. and even described Buchanan as “green” in its editorial during his recent campaign, laughable.
Monrovia has a dangerous crime problem right now, and to go after the police at this time is reprehensible. It is treacherous to attack your own side during battle. Adams is a traitor to Monrovia. He should resign or be recalled.
May 7th, 2008 at 10:05 am
From the MPOA web:
“This is the same City Council and Mayor who have held peace rallies, attended school safety forums, held repeated news conferences about the gang violence and recent homicides, and walked in a peace march to stop gang violence. We would ask if these are the actions of a group of people who honestly believe the city to which they have dedicated so much time and effort is not in the midst of a crisis of public safety. Either their earlier efforts were reactionary and meant purely for public relations, or their recent comments are revisionist and disingenuous.”
Will one of you knowledgeable folk explain to me what this paragraph means?
May 7th, 2008 at 10:14 am
I think it means the council is full of you know what! On the one hand, claiming there is a gang, public safety problem, and on the hand saying there is no need to improve the staffing, funding of our police department.
One has to wonder about the judgement of Monrovia’s elected officials, no to mention Ochoa, the city manager.
May 7th, 2008 at 10:17 am
The ci.monrovia.ca web should remove the third paragraph on their site where it mentions petitions. It’s unnecessary and somewhat inflammatory.
Don’t stoop or be a stupe, one of those.
May 7th, 2008 at 10:21 am
Evil Female Investor (heh!)***best name
“saying there is no need to improve the staffing, funding of our police department.”
Can you point me to where the city says that?
May 7th, 2008 at 10:25 am
On second thought, maybe that’s useless since it’s like asking Dana Perino to repeat “We do not torture.”
May 7th, 2008 at 10:40 am
Sorry to be a wet blankey in all this, but don’t posters have some expectation that their identity will be shielded by admins, not outed? Especially on any blog that allows anonymity and pseudonyms?
I’d be curious also to know how the identity was tracked.
Anonymous Wonky Wonk
May 7th, 2008 at 11:56 am
Hey Wonky Wonk (i kind of like that)…
As far as i understand, the different people who write articles on this blog have access to all the posts and can see IP addy’s if they have a program that allows them to do so. Also for those that leave email addresses, they have that, too, no matter what.
Is that correct? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? Anyone?
May 7th, 2008 at 12:10 pm
Any expectations of anonymity are gone when the poster makes vicious personal attacks about the men and women in uniform.
To post that “the last MPD officer to be injured on the job was hurt because he ate too many donuts at once” days after SGT Dan Verna was shot is unconscionable, especially coming from an elected official.
Shame on you Tom Adams, shame on you.
May 7th, 2008 at 12:12 pm
Okay, you got me, I am Tom Adams. Detective Parry got me. parry you get an a for effort and an f for facts, keep looking.
May 7th, 2008 at 12:39 pm
I have personally known Tom Adams for a few years and you are not describing the man that I know. Your remarks about the man clearly show your level of ignorance. He has done numerous things for the community of Monrovia. Any hacker can steal an IP address and use it to make these types of remarks. If you know anything about computers you would have known this already, but instead you go on to make personal attacks. Mr Parry, I have heard about you and the opinions have not been positive. So before going on your little witch hunt of Tom Adams, maybe you should think before you act!
May 7th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
Besides wasting taxpayers dollars at City Council meetings and needless public document requests, would the the members of “gang” who signed the petition to recall our duly elected councilmembers be willing to hold a public forum sponsored by their supporters to discuss with the community what they believe the “real” issues are? It would be interesting to see who would come to listen to them. I can hear the crickets now.
May 7th, 2008 at 1:30 pm
The city will not discuss real issues. They put up the smoke screen about having to pay into CALPERS. Every city has to pay into that no matter what. They have to pay in average to the salary. Every city has to do this and Monrovia is the only city to make this a huge sticking point in negotiations. When a city negotiates, this issue is part and parcle to the pay cscale but Monrovia is using it as a poor us.
I have seen more businesses come into this city in the last 10 years than any other outside of Pasadena. The business generating businesses in this city have given the city quite a boost in the last 5 years alone. If the city can keep financing building projects throughout the city, they can spring for more officers and raises to keep in line of that with other cities in similar position throughout the valley.
May 7th, 2008 at 1:38 pm
G.B get a life! You can see that Mr. Bad Boy posted a message. Obviously this must be some 12 year old kid who stole the IP address and is bored and having fun with everyone, or its a disgruntled employee that got pulled over for a speeding ticket! Tom did not write this and the person that is posting under his name is an obvious impostor!
May 7th, 2008 at 1:45 pm
Are the amounts of contributions into CALPERS not allowed to be questioned?
The California Public Employees’ Retirement System, the nation’s largest pension fund, will now reveal the size of the fees it pays hundreds of money managers, including such well-known firms as the Carlyle Group and Kohlberg Kravis Roberts.
Henry Kravis is watching us all. We are doomed.
May 7th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
The above is lifted from Business Week 12/20/04
May 7th, 2008 at 1:58 pm
Alex do you get paid for defending slimy politicians or do you count them as your friends? In any case, this issue is about Monrovia police coming under fire by criminal elements as well as their own city council.
May 7th, 2008 at 2:00 pm
Alex-
Bad Boy’s comment this morning came from one of the ab-escrow IPs I discussed last night.
Tom, as he has identified himself, most certainly is closely associated with the Councilman’s firm.
No teenager I know is interested enough in City politics to keep this up, nor would any know the personal things about me (and others) that Tom has said, both here and in emails to me.
Moreover, if this “teenager” were so smart, why not make all of the posts from the ab-esrow IPs? Plus, one would think that a firm like Century 21 would ensure the test site of its new Internet-based software has security robust enough to keep out a mischievous kid, no?
This is a straw man, Alex. If Mr. Adams isn’t Tom/Hay/Badboy, he certainly should know who is.
May 7th, 2008 at 2:10 pm
Mr. Parry, what is the date of the city council meeting you attended? How much time has Mr. Adams had to respond, and has he responded yet? He must respond to these allegations.
May 7th, 2008 at 2:11 pm
The nerve of those taxpayers “wasting taxpayers dollars at City Council meetings” and on needless “public document requests”. Just imagine, thinking they have a right to know what is going on and wanting to share their views on how the city is being run!
Oh, thats right…it is the people’s business that is being conducted, not some little club where they get to do whatever they want with no accountability.
And I don’t think that is the sound of crickets, sounds a lot like the sound of change to me.
May 7th, 2008 at 2:14 pm
This is turning out to be an excellent thread for irony hunters.
May 7th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
Qi Gone do you believe everything you read on the internet? So you must believe aliens.
May 7th, 2008 at 2:25 pm
Mr Parry I know him personally and he did not write that to you because he’s out of town. So whoever is impersonating him and commenting on the blog is clearly an employee or a hacker. I never post anything on blogs and I thought I would never do it. I have fun reading the Laker and Dodger blogs but when I heard these ridiculous accusations I had to respond. Its easy to accuse some one without doing the research which you clearly have not done. I am here to tell you that Tom Adams is an honest man and I’m offended by some of these comments. You would too if you knew him.
May 7th, 2008 at 2:27 pm
Alex,
You cannot clone an IP address. You can hide one with software that routs you through a proxy server but you still have to deal with the mac address that each computer has so even if you go to a free wifi spot you are still known as who you are unless you use mac address spoofer software. Get your info straight before sounding off as an authority.
May 7th, 2008 at 2:31 pm
Lol. This is funny. ghstrydr164. I understand what you say and I am in computers but if you knew the man you would think this was funny.
May 7th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
So did the guy write it or not? How can we possibly go on with this if there is no resolution in sight? Where is the payoff?
Damn. What a mess.
May 7th, 2008 at 2:45 pm
“knowing” the man is of little importance, the actions of the man are what is important. Unfortunately, based on his public comments, willingness to mis-characterize events and secret dealings with taxpayer funds, Mr. Adam’s judgement has become suspect. Now factor in that his, or his company, computer is being used to attack members of the public that challenge city actions….well, one really has to wonder if isn’t time for him to consider leaving public office.
May 7th, 2008 at 2:51 pm
Alex,
I do know Tom, as well as you can know anyone casually. He lives one door down from me and I speak with and email him on regular basis. We have worked together on projects and taken meals together. Is he responsible for the posts, it sure looks like it.
May 7th, 2008 at 3:04 pm
OK. So now it looks as if the accuser has an agenda here and is using some self-possessed information to further it.
Has anyone actually seen proof that whoever Tom Adams is really sent the stuff in question or is the Parry person simply saying that’s the case?
And what’s Parry’s role in all this? Is he a Monrovia police officer.
And, I’m sorry, but if you allow anonymity, you have to respect it.
And I have no stake in any of this, expect to think that Monrovia politicians are self-promoting bottom feeders just like the ones here in Pasadena. And your cops have it pretty well, but you couldn’t pay me enough to do any job where I might get shot at.
Wonky Wonk
May 7th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
Wonk,
I agree with you wholeheartedly and I promise to NEVER OUT ANYONE ON MY BLOG. The more I think about it this will probably hurt the local blogs because many people will not what to participate for fear of being out-ed if they support an unpopular opinion. The most important aspect of this type of blogging is the gathering and sharing of information, without that there is no reason to blog. I am abstaining from any further comments on “Bad Boy, Hay” and Adams for the welfare of the local blogs.
May 7th, 2008 at 3:57 pm
Tom Adams is the lackey for Dave “Mr. Nice Guy” Gayman. They travel to Mexico often for get-a-way weekends and Adams gets comped at Gaymans horrible restaurant. If you’re looking for Tom Adams on Friday night you’ll find him in Gaymans tacky back patio at Jakes Coffee Shop.
May 7th, 2008 at 3:58 pm
It is not simply a matter of expressing an unpopular opinion. This case looks to be a senseless attack on an officer shot in the face by a council member opposed to a police pay raise. That’s egregious, by any standards. Public officials are held to scrutiny and the intelligent ones know to comport themselves honorably behind-the-scenes or in public, that is to say at all times.
If you say something immoral,or untrue, whether you are anonymous or not, you should be held accountable.
Anonymity should be maintained for whistleblowers, provided they are accurate. Even the Fair Political Practices Commission recognizes this.
Mr. Adams himself is probably aware of this issue by now, and he should respond promptly.
It doesn’t matter whether Mr. Parry is a police officer or not. The burden is on Mr. Adams who is alleged to have behaved very badly as an elected public official.
Probably a more formal investigation is also in order.
May 7th, 2008 at 4:05 pm
Well it seems like you have done all of your research and have Tom Adams in your crosshares. It would appear to everyone that you have caught him with his hand in the cookie jar. Some times with all of the CSI shows and reruns we get caught up thinking that we are detectives in a show and that the conclusions that we come up with do not impact the lives of anyone. I happen to think that Tom Adams is a stand up guy and the attacks on his character by someone who has made himself judge and jury are the lowest for of attack. You have made your case and presented it to all. You have declared him guilty and have not allowed for him to defend himself. Last time I checked we still live in a country where due process is the way we do thing and that we are presumed innocent until proven guilty. I hope you feel proud of yourself. This is a small community and the pride and the community that we feel when we greet our neighbors is one of the best feeling around. You have sunk to the level of a Steve Grolneck. Mom sure will feel proud.
May 7th, 2008 at 4:12 pm
The wounded officer could certainly file a lawsuit and out of that, the truth may be revealed. I would encourage that. Many people are fed up by the sneaky and viperish behavior by politicians who want to have their way and are unable to have it via honest means. I’ve heard similar stories on the same theme from Monrovia’s neighboring cities.
May 7th, 2008 at 4:19 pm
Where is Fox Moulder when you need him. This conspiracy theory is straight out of the x-files. Interesting one person can level these facts and make this sort of scandal without showing any proof. Anyone can make a chart and put some words on it. It is like calling someone a child molester. Once you do that there is no way to unring that bell.
May 7th, 2008 at 4:20 pm
Concerned Monrovian, we will have to wait and see. One of the things I have noticed about politicians who behave badly is that they wrap themselves tightly in their city’s flags. They go to church, fund raise for schools and flip pancakes at the fire houses. Model citizens, indeed. Now, where is Mr. Adams’ statement and how is further proof of these allegations obtained?
May 7th, 2008 at 4:27 pm
I will meet anyone, face to face, who wishes to review the data that I have. The Coffee Bean at Myrtle and Foothill is as good a place as any.
I made the same offer at the Council meeting last night, and no one challenged me.

Joe Friday is on this case. It doesn’t appear from my investigation that Mr. Parry is anything more than a police supporter demonstrating his support. He is not a Monrovia Police Officer and not a representative of law enforcement. He is a private citizen who disagrees with his city council and voices his opinions. He has that right as others have the right to disagree.
I think the people of Monrovia should be very concerned that in this e-mail to the reporter that is posted on the crime blog Councilman Adams does not act out in anger over what someone has said about his city police force on one of his company computers. He does not say he will even investigate the matter and get to the bottom of it and fire the person responsible.
Councilman Adams has the right to go into his employee’s computers and trace down the culprit. That he didn’t say he would do that is very disturbing to Joe Friday. The comment made by Bad Boy about the “last officer injured in Monrovia” should be grounds for termination. Why did Councilman Adams not comment on that very disturbing remark made on one of his company computers? To Joe Friday that is a fact that would be hard for Councilman Adams to explain.
Joe friday agrees that Councilman Adams due process rights should be honored and he is innocent until proven guilty.
Those are the facts.

If you were not aware Mr. Adams has been out of town but will be back soon. It is always easiest to attack someone when they are not there to defend themselves. Mr. Adams has never been one to shrink from a comment. At the end of the day we will have to answer to a higher authority.

“…out of town”??? What does that have to do with anything? Laptops travel anywhere with you. They can access the internet via satellite using a cellphone. Out of town is a lame excuse for not addressing this very hot topic.

As far as Mr. Adams being “a stand up guy” that could mean anything. Does that mean he is physically able to stand up, or that he will stand up and voice his opinion even if it is unpopular, or that he will stand up and say what he thinks everyone wants to hear? We all know of people that don’t always do and say the right or popular things even though they believe themselves to be honorable. However, when their words or deeds hurt others, their character comes into question. I don’t know Mr. Adams, but I think I would prefer to stay clear of him if given a choice based on what I’ve read so far. Hopefully Mr. Parry is being honorable and not self-serving in his allegations.

Mr. Parry I would like to meet with you. Do you have a contact email so this can be arranged privately and thank you.
May 7th, 2008 at 5:25 pm
I do not know who Mr. Parry is, nor have I ever met him. I do know Mr. Adams and have had the occassion to meet with him on numerous occassions. I know he stands for what is right and not what is popular. I know that he is a man of character and not self-serving. I know that he is not going to make unfounded accusations in a public forum. When it comes time for you to announce your run for City office Mr. Parry think about what you will come against and how you will be judged. I am sure that you will find that we are making it harder and harder for good people to hold elected positions. Look at what we have in the presidential election? If they are the best of the best we are headed for certain doom.

IT IS NOW TIME TO START A “RECALL VOTE” ON TOM ADAMS. HE HAS BEEN IN OFFICE TOO LONG AND IS A SELF SERVING UNDERMINING JACKASS. LET’S VOTE HIM OUT OF OFFICE AND TAKE OUT ROB HAMMOND TOO.

Everyone is a person of “character” it just depends on whether it is “moral character” or “immoral character.”

We know for a fact that Mr. Adams lied. All you have to do is watch the re-run of the April Council Meeting where he stated - I know nothing about blogs or all that internet stuff. I have never blogged.
Yet, February he spoke to 2,500 realtors at Century 21 national conference in Florida. The topic - how his REALTORS use a 24-hour, software-based system to capture leads for buyers and sellers.
Yeah, call it a “white lie” but it’s still a LIE.
May 7th, 2008 at 6:09 pm
Tom Adams is a complusive liar who lies on the same level as Bill Clinton when Clinton said ” I never had sex with that woman”.
May 7th, 2008 at 6:18 pm
Language directly from Adams and Barnes Century 21 website:
“In Florida 08, the tech savvy broker re-visited the great stage and this time spoke of the technology accomplishments his team of REALTORS have achieved and how they are pioneering the next wave of home selling techniques.”
Here’s the direct link- http://www.hugotorres.com/HUGO/theblog.html
Now- what did he say at the April’s Council meeting again?
Everyone has morals - it just depends on what types of morals.

Do you people even live in Monrovia. Do you spend any time in the community. Are you member that participate or do you come home from work and park it at home. I participate. I go to the Charitable events and try to make a difference. Who do I see at these events, Mr Adams. He does not have to go but he participates and makes life better for a whole lot more people. Who can say that they have invested their lives in Monrovia and invested in the families in our community. Who has given time and mentored people in the real estate field. Tom is a leader. Tom creates jobs in the community and spends money in the community. Now that is what I call putting your money where your mouth is.

Success breeds disdain. I know that Tom is a success. How many of you can say that they gambled their future and started a business in Monrovia. How many can say that they have been one of the people that has led the charge to market Monrovia real estate like Mr. Adams. Creating Value and making a difference.

I think we can all start to see a change here. More postings are coming in support of the city administration and council…as well as the police. I hope the nay-sayers keep it up…as distasteful as some of their comments are, it sometimes takes something like this to re-energize the citizens and support what is right, true and fair. I support the city manager, city council, police, fire, city landscapers and anyone else who is trying to make a positive difference in our city. I belive in fair and equitable compensation for all.
In these tuff times, we all need to be thankful for the city we live in and how far it has come…it did not just happen…it took hard work and heavy lifting by many people. Keep it up!

Interesting that Mr. Adams does not say he never did such a thing.

May 7th, 2008 at 7:37 pm
I think comparing an alleged misdeed by a council person against the Police Dept and possible Presidential candidates is tad bit overstated. You can defend Mr. Adams but Mr. Parry has very compelling evidence that the flat out unprofessional and hatred laced remarks came from Mr. Adams’ office. Mr. Adams and Mr. Ochoa have been less than honest and truthful in the ongoing negotiations between the City and MPOA. The latest bargaining session lasting a mere 7 minutes. So, they should be open for a lot of criticism
May 7th, 2008 at 7:42 pm
#73, 7 minutes? Do tell?
May 7th, 2008 at 7:56 pm
A schedule negotiation was scheduled. The meeting consisted of the CM secretary asking for the MPOA latest proposal. End of meeting.

#70 I think that the majority of the posts are still critical of the city administrative staff. A few people are supporting Mr. Adams.

Concerned Monrovian- As someone who’s staffed a US Congressmember for a decade I can tell you that politicians attend many events - dinners, conventions, etc…. At the City level that would include ribbon cuttings, school games, Kiwanis Annual dinners, etc…that’s how they stay in office.
I can also tell you elected officials are and should be held at a higher standard. So if “someone” used his office’s IP address to blog those vicious comments about our police officers, if I were him, I would be turning my office upside down to find out who did it. Not simply blame it on some random person.
Perhaps he, like OJ Simpson, will now begin the search for real culprit.

Any person stating facts or making statments about the current topic in which they fail to provide proper backup and evidence will be taken to court and asked to provide such proof as to why their statement or facts or in fact true. If they are proven not to be true I will personally charge you with libel and if I can slander (obviously when you make your verbal statement in a court of law). YOU PEOPLE ARE CAUSEING UNECESSARY PUBLIC WORRY NONE OF THIS SHIT HAS BEEN PROVED SPREADING RUMORS IS IMMORAL.

59 – I just finished reading that letter posted by MCW – WOW! It sounds like there are some similarities with what is going on today, “inconsistent pattern of discipline, preferential treatment and lack of leadership.” Disgusting!
#55 – If the consultant hired to do an investigation of the city did in fact make two reports, one for the city and one for the public, THEN WE DEFINITELY NEED THE DOJ INVESTIGATING!!!! Sounds like there were some serious allegations back then and no one took those poor guys serious. There needs to be an investigation of the entire department not just the Verna incidents.
A source from the MPD tells me there is STILL another investigation that was done around the same time 2006’ish and is filed somewhere. The investigation/survey was done by The Matrix Consulting Group. If you guys can cross your “t’s” and dot your “i’s” on this one I would really like to read it. Good luck getting it!
OFFICERS ON PROBATION training ACADEMY RECRUITS? - OFFICERS ON PROBATION being assigned duties as SUPERVISORS in the field? Better yet, how about an OFFICER ON PROBATION, who was held back because of poor performance, assigned duties as a FIELD SUPERVISOR, then later fired because he was unable to pass probation. Are you serious? These guys are carrying guns for crying out loud.
I went to the POST (Peace Officer Standards & Training) website just to see what I could find out. I found some interesting stuff on what is expected of a training officer. It said, “The Field Training Program is intended to facilitate a peace officer’s transition from the academic setting to the performance of general law enforcement uniformed patrol duties.” It went on to say, “Newly assigned officers must receive additional training in the field where they can learn from officers who HAVE ALREADY GAINED A GREAT DEAL OF PRACTICAL PATROL EXPERIENCE.” I don’t know about you guys, but someone on probation does not have a “great deal of practical experience.” I went on to read the requirements for supervisors and I just about fell off my chair. It doesn’t take rocket science to figure out the problem here.
Several sources in the MPD tell me morale “SUCKS!” They hate coming to work and have no respect for their boss. They are still down officers and from what I’m told there are more leaving. Apparently some of the lieutenants (I wasn’t told how many) have suggested to pursue a vote of no confidence. I was also told a lieutenant expressed his extreme displeasure with the chief’s decision on the most recent lieutenant promotion. How can they recover from this. It sounds like the department will not return to normal unless there is some serious house cleaing.
