Councilman Adams Responds
By Centinel | May 7, 2008
According to Frank Girardot, Councilman Adams has responded to Robert Parry’s charges. Girardot quotes Adams as saying,
“there are approximately 120 people who work for the Adams & Barnes Companies, anyone who may go to the internet, either on one of the company owned computers or one of their own attached to our network. We also have run press releases informing the public that our wifi is open to the public as a service, for free. Anyone of them can go to the internet through our network. Although I am not surprised that Mr. Parry has gone to this much trouble to find out basically nothing other than he thinks someone blogged from our internet connection. The real issue has not changed. The Monrovia Police Union through some of their supporters have done all they can to attempt to embarrass the council or city manager. Telling the world that Mr. Parry thinks someone from my office blogged will not get the Police Union any more money. One part that was a little sad is that Mr. Parry’s attack came at a meeting when anyone who reads agendas knew I would not be there to respond. Baseless attacks always work better when no one can `respond. Perhaps if Mr. Parry wants transparency on his blog he should post all of the bloggers IP addresses and locations, but then that is not his goal.”
There’s obviously a huge amount to discuss here, and I plan on addressing this later tonight.

There are many citizens that stand behind the city council and city manager. We also stand behind our police and fire personnel. Thanks for the posting Councilman Adams and thanks for making a difference. Keep up the good work!

To repeat, it is interesting that Mr. Adams did not deny he wrote those blogs. He just says anybody could have done it. I was hoping for a stronger denial.

Nice to see there was a response. I talked with Mr Adams a few weeks ago and found him pretty open and he struck me as an honest guy.
What disheartens me is the lack of control on his network. If it was his employees has he considered blocking IP’s they can contact via work computers? My old employer did just that. My wife at HSBC blocks all the blogs. Not so much for what an employee can do, but rather it prevents them from spending work time surfing the net. An option he needs to consider. Maybe?
I wonder what efforts Mr Adams will take now to trace back who the offending computer is. I wonder as well what will he do to the culprit if it is his employee. Those are answers I think we all deserve to have. Maybe I’ll ask.
Free wifi, how did I miss that one in my quest for hotspots. Thought sitting in his parking lot can’t compare to Pavilions or Monrovia Coffee Company for atmosphere while working on a laptop.

Mr. Adams knows full well that the MPOA is not asking for money out of greed. They are asking for what is fair and what their counterparts at other agencies are getting. He blurs the line between Mr. Parry being an eager resident trying to point out alleged misdeeds by an elected official or one of his subordinates and Mr. Parry stumping for the police to get a raise. Mr. Adams obviously does not read the blog and goes by second hand information.

Councilman Adams I find your response to typical of a politician with no backbone or strong footing in his argument. Your failure to address the issues at hand say all one needs to say about you or your concern for the well being of the city of Monrovia. Mr. Parry (a citizen & YOUR BOSS) it seems has got your number and perhaps you should be attending these meetings. Don’t get upset when your clear and despicable agenda is revealed and, PLEASE, do not assume the rest of us are not paying attention to your lack of self control. At least have the balls to admit you were caught red handed! If it were not YOU, in YOUR office, on YOUR companies computer then I will be waiting for you to close in on the violator and name him/her?! Though, with a callow individual like you, I won’t hold my breath.
I happen to know Mr. Parry and he is a man of character, an Iraq War Veteran and a Man with the highest of ethical values. You on the other hand have much to improve upon concerning your ethical compass. I will be waiting for you to release the name of the individual who spent all that time on YOUR computer taking at homonym attacks against our Police and Mr. Parry. Until then, please make an attempt to clean up your act, it really is embarrassing.
All Monrovia Police Officers and Fire Fighters please stay safe!

I’d like to see at least lip service from Mr. Adams saying that he is outraged that someone would use the A&B wireless network for making inflammatory comments in regards to the labor dispute between the police and the City. I’d be more willing to believe him if it seemed as if he didn’t condone the behavior.
“The Monrovia Police Union through some of their supporters have done all they can to attempt to embarrass the council or city manager.” How is it embarrassing to point out that the CM got a large neg-am interest only loan from the City using tax payer dollars? Oh, it’s embarrassing that the truth is coming out. I get it now.
Perhaps we need some embarrassment around here these days because obviously, just accepting the status quo is getting us no where, except with higher crime rates and less money in the general fund (because apparently you can get sweetheart loans from the Council if you’re a first-time home buyer in Monrovia. Pass it on!).
Shine a little light and see what happens…

Ok, so a member of the public comes out and claims several posts, which disparage members of the Police Department, have originated from Council Member Adams private business…obviously, if you are Mr. Adams, you come out and flatly deny the claim…right?
Nope, instead he doesn’t deny the claim. Neither does he deny that the posts originated from an employee at his direction. Lastly, he fails to criticize the content of the postings - you know the part about the police being no more than security guards, or the part about the last time an officer was injured it was due to eating too many donuts. Of course, this one was particularly disturbing in light of Sgt. Verna recently being shot in the line of duty.
Instead, Mr Adams takes the opportunity to attack a resident and to take a shot at the police by stating they will not get “any more money”.
Now I hear that instead of attending & holding negotiations as scheduled, Mr. Adams along with the Council and City Manager, simply sent in a secretary and asked for the police’s latest proposal?
H’mmmm? Sure seems like a total lack of leadership to me.

Big Shot Tom Adams has been derilect in his duties ever since he teamed up with Rob Hammond and Dave Gayman in running their personal cash cow, the Friday Night Flea Market. You can find all three in the back of Gaymans coffee shop every Friday night at about 7:00pm. BIG SHOT TOM finally got busted.

Take the heat like a man Adams rather than blame one of your employees. You just got caught with your hands in the cookie jar.

After wondering about the need for a billboard because there is a lack of good press coverage it occurred to me that real estate ads are a mainstay of our local papers. I did read that Mayor Hammond suggested a recall or a ballot initiative, which is the hard way. Sierra Madre police did a ballot initiative which succeeded - and then it got tied to another vote for a utility tax, which just passed. During its argument for the utility tax, the city made no spending cuts which many people objected to. Sir Eric Maundry wrote about this issue frequently here.
Attorney Dieter Dammeier represents more than 100 police associations in California. It looks like Dammeier worked with many other cities and negotiations went much smoother than Sierra Madre or Monrovia.
It is frustrating to view priorities from certain council members differing from those of certain taxpayers. Is this unanimous, or are there different opinions on the council?
I have also met Mr. Adams a couple times, and why wouldn’t he be charming and open, he is a realtor.
Also, is it known whether or not the council would prefer to contract with the LA County Sheriffs? Sometimes an impasse in police negotiations would indicate some council members would prefer that.
A hallmark of Monrovia’s community has been its street and sidewalk patrols.

The city should be loathe to contract with the Sheriff’s Dept. Not for the fact that the LASD is a sub standard agency, but for the fact that it is not a fiscally just decision. The cost outweighs the current Police Dept set up

Dont believe bonehead Adams. He got caught and now hes trying to put on his game face to play it off. I agree with many of you here. If he REALLY didnt have anything to do with those comments, then he should have straight out denied it and speak against such comments. As a Bussiness owner he should also promise to look into who made such remarks and get to the bottom of it, promising some sort of disciplinary action towards that person. Actually, most likely towards himself! Even after getting caught and beating around the bush on how it could have been anyone that made those comments, he still took the time to put down our police officers. Who the heck does this bonehead think he is? I swear sometimes I feel we have mafia members running Monrovia!

Not a very satisfying explanation but a fairly creative tap dancing performance. What can we anticipate for the grande finale’? Will the real Tom Adams stand up and take a bow at the next City Councel Meeting or will he be pointing to the Bad Boy needle in the Hay stack?

That’s right “crickets”, and it’s been 21 days since you were outed Mr. Adams. Yet nothing from you but more stone throwing. Typical deflect and deffer tactics of a callow indavidual, so we’ll see you at election time! And at that time don’t let the door hit you in the tail on the way out. How do you look in the mirror in the morning knowing you were caught red handed, yet fail to have even the slightest of class to cast an appology? Pathetic.

Crickets still????….. This guy Adams is a hack!
