New City Manager of Pasadena Already Selected?

By Centinel | May 13, 2008

Say what? A reader sends in this tip:

I heard something that’s more than a rumor: they’ve picked a new city manager. All I know is that it’s a woman that is the ex- city manager of Glendale. Apparently she was named on Wednesday last week, and they’re putting together the press releases. Keep your ears open on this one… it’s from a fairly reliable source. I don’t know why there hasn’t been anything out on this yet.

Well, Pasadena, what do you have to say for yourself? Can this be? Is this a violation of the Brown Act? Isn’t there some way we can call this a scandal, grow irate, and protest?

UPDATE: Commenter “Ann Erdman” claims this is all a rumor.

There is absolutely no truth to this rumor. The Pasadena City Council meets on Monday nights, not Wednesdays. The last time they had ANY closed session was April 29, and the last time they had a closed session on THIS topic was April 14. Any press release will be sent out by yours truly and it’s way, way, way premature for that. The application process closes on Friday, May 16, after which the executive search firm will conduct personal interviews with the qualified candidates who have the greatest potential to lead Pasadena’s municipal operations into the next decade. The list of candidates is expected to be delivered for council consideration by early summer. Visit www.bobmurrayassoc.com to view the application and for more info.

Who is this mysterious “Ann Erdman?” I’m not sure, but I’m getting tired of people in the comments acting like they know everything. Oh wait, what’s this…City of Pasadena Public Affairs? Hmmm, this merits investigation…

since the application process has not even closed yet — i.e., city hall is very much still accepting applications — i wouldn’t believe this rumor as far as you could throw it. there is no forthcoming press release. there was no decision made “on wednesday,” though if there had been, that certainly would be a violation of the brown act, as no special meeting of the city council was noticed. the “fairly reliable source” is, so far, entirely unreliable. if somewhere down the line the selection turns out to be an ex-glendale cm — not an especially likely scenario, but, whatever — then the rumor spreader must have had some link to something real. but don’t hold your breath for such an announcement. lw

I suspect the person in question is not Glendale’s former city manager, rather the former “Assistant to the City Manager,” Elaine Aguilar, who just last year was hired to be City Manager of Sierra Madre (is anyone surprised to hear she’s running away quickly from that job?).

Jim Starbird has been Glendale’s City Manager for many, many years. I do not know who preceeded him, but to the best of my recollection I do not think it was a woman.

dublius, that sounds right — on that part of this poor game of telephone. aguilar seems to be doing a good job in sm. and for everyone who believes the proud burgermeisters of pasadena would hire anyone for their top spot whose last job was cm of little sierra madre, i have a bridge over the arroyo seco i’ll be selling you, for the right price …

Larry Wilson is selling bridges now?

I hear the new CM is Dwight Schrute.

    H- Hard Worker
    T- Terrific
