Monrovia PIO issues correction RE # Vacant Foreclosures

By Frazgo | May 16, 2008

Contrary to the numbers quoted at the May 5 Community Council meeting and later published in their minutes, things are not quite as dire as first thought.  The correction:

Those of you who were at the Coordinating Council meeting on May 5 heard me give some statistics on the number of houses in Monrovia that were said to be in default or already vacant as a result of foreclosure. I am happy to tell you that I had incomplete information that morning and as a result the numbers I quoted were greatly inflated – they turned out to be regional, rather than Monrovia-only numbers, and included homes in County unincorporated areas as well as some parts of surrounding cities.

I apologize for the mistake and want to give you the accurate numbers:  On the day we met, May 5, there were 84
Monrovia homes in some level of mortgage default, another 40 that were up for sale by trustees and banks following foreclosure, and 36 other properties that were being held by banks but were not yet being sold. It is  unknown how many of those properties are actually vacant.

It is also important to note that these numbers change on a daily basis, going up on some days and down on others. But on that particular day,
Monrovia had 76 homes that had been foreclosed on recently and another 84 that were in danger of foreclosure in the near future.

Still is a lot of foreclosures.  If they are selling discounted to 80% of market value that can have an impact on overall home values.

Well, we definitely know that at least 40 are vacant, as once they are bank-owned and for sale, they are untenanted. Actually, these numbers are definitely no where near as bad as they could be. So far, we’re “lucky”.

I wonder what the situation in Sierra Madre is?
There is a nice place near me, been for sale forever, gal had to give it up, couldn’t afford the mortgage. She paid too much for it, at the highth of the “bubble”.

Well it is good to know the “public information” information officer finally has his facts straight, or does he?

Was he right before? or is he right now? or is he right at all?

I don’t believe the original information was incorrect. I believe that “DICK” got his ass kicked for telling the TRUTH for one of the few times in his life and now he is lying as usual.

Sounds like the peasants, pots and pans rallies the CIA used to set up in South America to make it look like “grassroots” protest against leadership they didn’t approve of. Looks like a tactic against the police.

I wonder how the rally went last night?

“Looks like a tactic against the police.” Ultimately, the police have all the power-with that power comes responsibility. This is an armed force, and I don’t like the way they are being led. It’s degrading to them, and they don’t deserve to be represented by some out of touch idiot attorney and his hired subgenius PR gun.

Miss H - who’s the subgenius PR gun?

    Who is it, Mr. Parry?

I dunno. I didn’t know there was one. I that the lawyer was the center of all idiocy and evil (um, I think that was in the CM’s report). Now you say there’s a “hired subgenius PR gun.” To whom are you refering?

I thought you would know, sincerely. Is this attorney acting alone?

  12. Miss Havisham Says:

It’s unusual for an attorney to act alone and do his own PR and PI work, especially in high profile cases where there is a caution against extrajudicial commentary.

Actually I am the one who challenged Mr. Singer’s inflated numbers. As an agent in Monrovia, I could not find facts to prove his statistics. Yes, things are different than they were in 2005, but it certainly isn’t as bad as media (and PIO’s) would have us believe!
