Anony gives me a tip -gang activity and MPD staffing issues

By Frazgo | May 20, 2008

An anonymous caller (and will remain that way as I am too cheap to pay for caller ID) gave me a call this morning.  Concerned that the “news” would never make it out or even get a mention in the CM weekly report.  He obtained my number from my calling card is all that he had to explain how he found me.  I could use some witnesses to come forward to help verify the information.

I appreciate the need for anonymity.  If anyone can back up the information please do so in the comments or drop me a note privately. (PS thanks for the quick call with the typo).

Kinda sad when a gabacho with a keyboard gets the tips on activity in the area.

Just to clarify, the two guns from Primrose were among those in the six referenced in an earlier post here on FC. That doesn’t make eight, “just” six.

Don’t know RJCP, the caller was definitely on the QT and I recited verbatum.

As for confirmation, I just spoke with an “insider” who confirmed the incident on Primrose as valid. As far as the weekend of 5/12, I am told that is a common occurance, happening just about every weekend. My contact will verify that particular day and will let me know, however he reminded me that “this [problem-lack of staffing]is part of the problem”. The history of on-going short staffing, leading to necessary overtime and being called into work during off time.

Correction on last sentance(The last part of the sentance was cut-off):
The history of short staffing leading to constant and necessary overtime and being called into work during off time has been one of the major complaints of the Officers.

Wow. I wonder if that short staffing has any impact on the Melrose incident in North Monrovia on the 11th.

There needs to be more community activism, period!

The gang problem will not be remedied by merely paying the cops more $$$. - Even when staffed appropriately, they seem to spend more time speeding through alley-ways (without regard for the home-owners who live on an ‘access-way’), or pulling-over people in nice cars late in the evening to try and ’sweat them’ for possible DUI arrests.
The mayor needs to roll-up his sleeves a bit more, encourage more grass-roots citizen watch-dog programs, and spend less time bashing atheists (his Thanksgiving speech….Hammond - please keep your Dogma on a leash).

We must all be vigilant in our efforts, but I would also state that it is time to push-forward gentrification efforts as quickly as possible. I am a tolerant person, but 10,000 a year in property taxes gives me a right to exlaim that it is time for this ’sleepy town’ to wake-up and drive out all of the knuckle-heads who are causing problems and ruining this beautiful place.
…For those who state that I am insensitive, or even racist - I am Not! In fact, I am a ‘person of color’ who feels that enough ‘tolerance’ has been provided to these ‘gun toting section 8-ers’.
“Taxation with equal and proportionate representation!!!”

Dix, I think you’re part right! Paying cops more $$$ will not fix the gang problem, but it will absolutely keep the department staffed appropriately. It will also keep trained-exprienced officers working for the city. I think we need to look at the lack of leadership at the mpd. Its been said that the chief does not care enough about the officers to listen to their complaints and correct the deficiencies at the root of thier complaints. (I hear morale sucks!)
I’ve also heard the chief has not shown any support for the officers and that he is aloof, dictatorial and has been discriminatory and biased in protmotions and discipline. Is it true that he does not care about the officers in his department and has no loyalty to the employees?

How can a department recover from such low morale? I think its time to consider steping down and letting someone else take a shot at it.

    A concerned citizen!
